Catch Up Time: Best Seats Ever…

Posted by thehennessyhouse on August 5, 2008

I was lucky enough to score 4 tickets through work in the first row behind the Rockies dugout…I took the family and we had the best time we’ve ever had at Coor’s field.  It’s the first time I stayed in my seat for the entire game…with a glove on, protecting the fam from foul balls.  Here’s the link to the pics and a few samples below.

Respect for the Dock is learned the Hard Way

Posted by thehennessyhouse on July 9, 2008

The View from the Dock

The view from the dock is intoxicating…

It was another fantastic 4th of July in Bemus Point, NY in 2008.  The weather was perfect.  I returned home earlier than the rest of the family for work and yesterday morning, I got a call from Joshua.

“I have a story to tell you, Dad”

“Oh okay, go ahead”

“I fell in the lake”

It was a short story.

“Were you on the boat or the dock?”

“The dock, I was feeding hot dog rolls to the duckies”

“Did you get dunked”

“Yeah, I was just a little bit scared, Dad”

Soonie couldn’t stop snickering.  Josh fell into about 2 feet of water, got dunked and popped right up sopping wet.  She was able to quickly fish him out…but I have a funny feeling he’ll never forget this trip to Poppy and Nana’s house on the lake.

As soon as the camera makes it home, I’ll put up some pictures.  And tell more fun stories of our visit with Simon and Erica as well (They were traveling home to Toronto from a Norwell, MA visit).

Music on the Horizon – The Avett Brothers

Posted by thehennessyhouse on July 1, 2008

Well, well, well…I see the Avett Brothers are on the bill for the Great Blue Heron festival.  It would be such a treat to see them and Donna the Buffalo in the same night, but alas…when I checked the schedule I found out the Avett’s are playing Friday night (Americana on the 4th and my secret hope is to take a Canadian along, I love it) and Donna is playing Sat and Sun nights.

“North Carolina’s Avett Brothers play acoustic music that has roots in traditional folk and bluegrass, but also captures the high spirits and no-boundaries attitude of rock & roll, which is appropriate, since rock is where Scott Avett and Seth Avett cut their teeth as musicians.”  Read more of there Biography at Billboard .com

I’d really like to get out to see them live…here’s a little taste of there stuff.

Back to the Lake…where it all began 6 years ago…

Posted by thehennessyhouse on July 1, 2008

I sure hope we fit in a Chatauqua Institution visit…by land or by sea…

Chautauqua is an adult education movement in the United States, highly popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Chautauqua assemblies expanded and spread throughout rural America until the mid-1920s. The Chautauqua brought entertainment and culture for the whole community, with speakers, teachers, musicians, entertainers, preachers and specialists of the day.

Former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt is quoted as saying that Chautauqua is “the most American thing in America.

The first Chautauqua, the New York Chautauqua Assembly, was organized in 1874 by Methodist minister John Heyl Vincent and businessman Lewis Miller at a campsite on the shores of Chautauqua Lake in New York State. –Source: Wikipedia

And how about some pic’s from last years’ trip (link here) My mouth is already burning just looking at the hot wing in Ted’s hand…mmm.  Save us a seat at The Casino!  Soonie would like some Volcanic wings…I’ll take Hot!

Another Look Back…How’s Your Aspen?

Posted by thehennessyhouse on July 1, 2008

Snowmass Hill DancersActually it was Snowmass, Colorado, just around the bend from Aspen.  It was definitley another successful trip with Ed, Kat and Frida…We saw Stephen Marley on Friday, June 6th, and then enjoyed downtown Aspen shopping and playgrounds…then Josh took a ride with Ed in the convertible back to the condo.  We recharged with some pool time and pink drinks….mmm tastes like Sunscreen.  For the record, Josh says no one drives faster than mommy…except Ed.
Great time and great trip…Glenwood Springs was georgous on the way there…and on the way home we were even more impressed by the beauty of Independence Pass.  It was the third day the pass was open and we encountered plenty of snow.  The week after we went…that’d be June 14thish, Aspen Mountain reopened to skiiers.

Take a peek at the pictures here and see some previews after the jump (after the jump mean click the link that says “Read the rest of this entry” over here—> Read the rest of this entry »
